We’re happy to announce that Dan Purcell, former Front Office Executive for the New Orleans Pelicans, will be returning to Las Vegas this summer as an instructor for our 2022 Business of Basketball Immersive Experience! Dan has been the latest host on our Sports Business Classroom Audio Experience podcast for a short series titled “One Man and the Draft,” covering behind the scenes insights on NCAA basketball scouting for the NBA draft. Dan was also a speaker and instructor for SBC in the past, both at our Immersive Experience and virtual conferences.
Dan Purcell’s basketball journey began when he was recruited to Lake Erie College to play Division III basketball where he helped the Storm to 2 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and a #1 overall regional ranking. After graduating, Purcell became a skills trainer/coach with the National Basketball Academy in Cleveland, OH. In 2009, when the Academy began a business relationship with the then-New Orleans Hornets, Purcell was selected to run the operation in Louisiana.
While at The Academy, Dan grew the program into the largest in the state. Notable players during his tenure at the Academy were Terry Rozier (CHA), Jared Butler (UTAH), and Thon Maker (MIL, CHI). Four years later, he was hired as the Hornets Basketball Operations Assistant. After a successful stint, he was promoted to Basketball Operations Manager.
