Content is delivered in various formats in order to maximize learning opportunities, effectively deliver a wide variety of content, and provide students with direct access to some of the best minds in the business.

The 2024 Sports Business Classroom Business of Basketball program content formats are:

  • Lectures: One-hour, instructor-led GE sessions. Each topic has multiple lecture sections – e.g: 101, 201.
  • Roundtables: One-hour moderator-led panel discussions with industry experts.
  • Term Project: In a series of exercises conducted throughout the week, you will work with a small team of students to take over an NBA front office, analyzing its strengths and weaknesses, and determining its goals, your strategy for reaching those goals, and tactics for executing your strategy. You will then put your plans to the test in SBC’s famous Mock Trade Deadline. Afterward, you will present your results to SBC’s panel of instructors and industry executives. Every team will receive constructive feedback, and one team will emerge victorious.
  • Deep Dives: Here’s where you really get into your chosen major, with in-depth content specifically related to your chosen field. The content and format will vary by major:
    • League Salary Cap: An extensive lecture series on the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    • Scouting, Video and Analytics: Working hands-on with NBA scouting and video personnel, students will learn the ins and outs of the scouting process, video room and analytics department. Students will apply teachings during live game scouting sessions and group assignments for an immersive, hands-on, front office experience.
    • Media and Broadcast: Students will continue their learning process with emphasis on commentary, writing, and presentation while actively applying the skills they’ve learned throughout the SBC program. This includes taking part as an analyst of an NBA game broadcast and/or participating in podcasts designed to showcase students prowess, personality, and growing knowledge base, all while receiving instruction and feedback from leaders in the industry.
  • SBC Summit: Grab lunch and sit back while an NBA coach or executive talks about his or her personal experience and what it takes to succeed in this business.
