Sports Business Classroom, an interactive, educational conference during Las Vegas Summer League, features a lunch speaker series with NBA coaches, general managers and executives. This year, the program will kick off the series in a big way as two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike D’Antoni will sit down for a wide-ranging interview with Tas Melas and Trey Kerby from NBA TV’s acclaimed daily show The Starters.

This past season, his second as head coach of the Rockets, D’Antoni led Houston to a franchise-best 65 wins and a trip to the Western Conference Finals. Houston took the eventual champion Warriors to seven games, but played the final two without point guard Chris Paul, who had suffered a hamstring injury.

Prior to Houston, D’Antoni’s 14-year head coaching career included stops in Denver, Phoenix, New York and Los Angeles. His Suns teams, with Steve Nash at the helm, featured some of the most dynamic, free-flowing offenses the game had seen. The Suns notched four straight 50-win seasons and reached back-to-back Western Conference Finals in 2005 and 2006. While a Championship proved elusive, those teams paved the way for the pace and space, sharpshooting, position-less basketball of today’s league.

Looking at the current landscape, it is evident that few have left such an indelible and bold imprint on the game’s style as D’Antoni.

In the digital world, The Starters have made an imprint of their own. Beginning as the highly engaging Basketball Jones podcast, The Starters used digital media, a deep connection with fans and an undeniable passion for the game to transform into a cross-platform content juggernaut. The four-person on-air crew has the unique ability to both represent fans and appeal to players, with content ranging from game breakdowns to a variety of clever, social-ready franchises. Both multi-faceted and multi-platform, The Starters can be found on NBA TV, NBA.com, iTunes, Apple Podcasts and across social, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The interview will take place Monday, July 9th on the first full day of Sports Business Classroom’s seven-day program. Mike D’Antoni is in Las Vegas watching the Houston Rockets play in NBA Summer League and The Starters are broadcasting live from Thomas & Mack Center July 6-10th.
